Stupid Mind Tweaks (or what not to do when running a fever)
On Sunday night I started running a lowgrade fever, just a touch of a mild bug that has been going around. I haven’t even felt that bad.
Mind-tweak wise, this is a good time to cut yourself a break. If you’re sick, your body and brain won’t be working at optimum levels, so it’s wise to avoid anything that requires a sharp mind or a lot of physical activity. It’s a good time for movie watching, light fiction reading, nothing goal oriented or taxing. Most importantly, don’t muck with anything you could screw up.
Being the expert on mind-tweaking that I am, I am, of course, above such rudimentary wisdom. Rules are made to be broken! I may be sick, but… by gawd.. I’m still SMART!
In awe of my own smartness, I decide it’s the perfect time to start messing around with my WordPress installation. Astounding logic, isn’t it? I’m running a fever, so I decide to start ‘fixing’ things that I really don’t understand, all written in languages that I really don’t understand. I *told* you I’m smart! I can write HTML at a level that would get me a C at least in high school Spanish. I can even muddle through php and css, if I have cheat sheets! Sort of.
Erm. Yes. Smart.
So far, I’ve managed to limit the damage to a small bit of down time, and a serious error with Windows Live Writer. Things may look a little wonky at different times today, while I chase down the problems and beg my handy webhost guys for help, but hey, I’m now running the newest version of Wordpress.. (sort of. Turns out it isn’t working quite right, either.)
While I’m fixing things, check out this bit of sweet brain-oddness on YouTube, discovered via MindHacks.
I’m thinking that the YouTuber who created that may have been a bit feverish too.. Leyla seems to have infected his brain. Still, creating sweet YouTube videos is probably a better fevered-activity than mucking around with the code that runs my blog.
Oh, and I also decided I should “fix” the AC unit, which nearly resulted in having to call the Natural Gas company. Don’t ask. Nothing exploded, but lets just say I’m glad it’s not going to be too hot these next few days.
MindTWEAK: Know your own limitations.
(and stop pretending that a bit of advil will make it all better!)
